The Sibling Journey Collection

All grieving children deserve to know they aren't alone.

The Sibling Journey Collection offers stories for children who have experienced the loss of a sibling.

Goodbye Sister, the first of our collection editions, promotes healthy grief recovery for children and families after stillbirth or miscarriage. The story centers affirmation of negative and positive feelings, grieving as a family, recognition of the loss of hopes and expectations associated with the arrival of a new baby, and a conclusion that reinforces the healing nature of love and memory.

Synopsis:

Kimi is looking forward to becoming a big sister. After learning that the new baby has died, Kimi and her family grieve together. Kimi's parents reassure her that she will always be a big sister.

Few books for children deal with the death of a sibling, stillbirth, or miscarriage, yet this type of loss is tragically common; 5-8% of all children in the US experience the loss of a sibling. Since its publication in 2022, Goodbye Sister has helped thousands of children and families.

Through our partnerships with hospitals, grief centers, libraries, and professional counselors, families now have access to an evidence-based story that is both beautifully illustrated and developmentally appropriate.

Coming in 2026: Goodbye Brother as well as Spanish translations Adiós Hermanita and Adiós Hermanito

Child Development/Parenting Coach & Grief Counseling

"As a professor of Thanatology and Child Development, as well as a grief counselor in clinical practice, it is rare that I find a children's book about death which I would personally use in my own practice. Goodbye Sister is that rare find. It is written with developmentally appropriate language AND illustrated in a way that conveys depth and emotion. Goodbye Sister is a beautifully written story which avoids euphemisms, uses concrete language of die and death and does so with a lyrical and child centered approach. The text is comforting, yet direct; a beautiful synergy. The simple concrete explanations allow for children and their families to use this book in a healing and adaptive way. Additionally, books written for and by siblings are hard to find. You have a gem here. I would recommend this book for any child grieving the loss of a sibling."
